The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Renowned for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.
Price was best known for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, including the soft-colored suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."
This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.
An Enduring Influence
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he began designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in crafting form-fitting garments made him a "genuine original," according to the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as several ensembles for her American tour following her marriage.
With a vocation that covered half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
- Defined Shapes: Central to his design philosophy.
- Theatrical Flair: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
- Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
- Working with Stars and Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.
The industry mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
