The Italian premier, Giorgia Meloni, will offload a reported 270 gifts given to her by world leaders while abroad. This unusual assortment is said to contain items such as a chainsaw-wielding statuette of Argentina's leader Javier Milei and a pair of blue python skin shoes with gold heels.

These items, combined, have an approximate value of €800,000. They are scheduled to be put up for sale in a public auction by a Italian fine art auction house. A date remains to be announced, although the aim is to hold the auction during the holiday season, with all funds raised donated to non-profit organizations.

Palazzo Chigi Treasures

The items reportedly kept in a secure area on the upper level of Palazzo Chigi. Reports indicate that Meloni furthermore intending to auction off gifts received by her political forerunners that have been gathering dust for years.

The full gift list has not yet been made public, but partial details emerged earlier this year when a detailed register of items received was submitted to lawmakers. The question raised whether a rule restricting expensive presents was being honored. According to regulation, a prime minister is not permitted to keep presents valued above €300.

• A electronic pad from the Ukrainian president.
• Watercolour paintings from the Moldovan government.
• Additional objects including cosmetics, a board, and several rugs from trips to Libya and other Arab nations.

"Perhaps the most unusual gifts were the Milei figurine and the exotic footwear," observers have said.
